“The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next” I think Abraham Lincoln was saying that what children learn in school is how they will run the government. Adults often don’t care about children’s education. Adults are too busy thinking about themselves to realize that the school system is not getting better. Other countries are beginning to be smarter than the United States. Adults need to realize that the children of the world are the future. They will be running the world when those adults are old. If children are not being taught important tools and information in school, then they will grow up not knowing those tools and information and will not be able to run the country as effective. Lincoln also said, “The way for a young man to rise is to improve himself in every way he can, never suspecting that anybody wishes to hinder him”. Lincoln could also be talking about education. Lincoln means that if someone wants to succeed they must work hard. If they want to improve themselves they will keep going if someone tries to stop them from achieving that. They will do homework and study for tests not for the grades or recognition, but only to make them better. This is how every child in America should think. They should all want to come to school to make themselves the best they can be. They should want to learn so they can grow up and get every opportunity available for them. They should want to do this to make the United States a better country. Samantha Browning Fisher High School Fisher, IL
