“I desire so to conduct the affairs of this administration that if at the end…I have lost every other friend on earth, I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be down inside of me.”
Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest Presidents ever, fought many battles both in this country and internationally that influence our world to this day. When Lincoln was running for President the south simply stated that if he were to ever become President they would secede from the North. When he became President in 1860 the south reacted quickly. South Carolina was the first to secede in Dec. of 1860. In a matter of time Lincoln reacted quickly and on Apr. 12, 1861 war was declared between the North and the South. Many countries wanted to intervene into the war, but Lincoln’s very strong foreign policy made it to where the only people fighting in the war were the north and the south. During the war Lincoln showed very prominent traits of a very strong and determined individual. He tried very hard to keep war from happening, but in the end he did not get his way.
All of the accomplishments that Lincoln did helped build the foundation of the society that we live on to this day. In the beginning of his Presidency Lincoln knew that he was not going to be able to please every single American, but that he would do everything he could to support the majority. But, in the end he knew that all he did helped people and the only person that needed to know that was himself.
