Seven score and ten years ago, the Gettysburg address was given by one of America’s most iconic presidents, Abraham Lincoln. At the time, the president’s speech was not considered to be significant to the honorary ceremony dedicated to those who had lost their lives fighting in civil battle at Gettysburg. Now the Gettysburg address is known to be one of the most famous speeches in American history. Today, America repeats history by disrespecting president Obama’s speech towards the Syrian conflict.
In president Obama’s speech, he persuaded America how necessary it was to violently act towards the Assad Regime for their use of chemical weapons. He then stated that he planned on taking the choice upon the people of congress through votes. At that time, the majority of congress was ready to vote no to act on Assad’s Regime. This shows a disagreement with the president’s and the people’s thoughts and a sign of disrespect to Obama that the people do not trust his reasoning of plans.
If America’s people can’t trust the president in a time of conflict, what does that say about America’s strength? Trust in the leader is a necessity for a stable country. At the time of the Gettysburg address, American’s were unclear of what President Lincoln was preaching to the people. Not till decades later was his speech recognized as true leadership. With that being said people of America need to analyze President Obama’s speech to get a clear justification of what our leader wants to do.
