Abraham Lincoln once said, “Things may come to those who wait but only the things left by those who hustle.” This means that you will achieve things by being patient but you will make a difference if you hustle to achieve. During Lincoln’s time he didn’t accomplish things by being patient. Lincoln strived to make a difference by hard work during the difficult trials he faced. In the eyes of many people Lincoln’s presidency made the biggest impact on our nation. Lincoln’s dedication to do what was right and not easy made him successful. Lincoln made the decision to fight to prevent the nation from falling apart. He was a dedicated leader and chief during the Civil War which preserved the United States as one nation. His foreign policy prevented other countries from overriding in the Civil War. Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which began the process of freeing the slaves. He also was a strong supporter of the thirteenth amendment that officially ended slavery in the United States. Lincoln set an example of strong leadership and honesty which succeeding presidents tried to follow, Barrack Obama said in his campaign that he would look back at Lincoln as a model. All of these accomplishments are an example of Lincoln’s hard work making an impact on our nation as a whole. Lincoln clearly proves this particular quote to be true. Abraham Lincoln’s quotes are among the most impacting quotes in the world. Lincoln definitely lives up to what he says in his quotes. With dedication, hustle and strive Lincoln made a difference. Hard work and hustle make a bigger impact than having patience. Ivey Spenard Fisher High School Fisher, IL
