In the fall of 1844, Lincoln had occasion to visit his boyhood in southern Indiana, and he wrote a poem reflecting on that experience.
“My childhood’s home I see again,
and sadden with the view;
And still, as memory crowds my brain,
There’s pleasure in it too.”…
