I have been looking into this story for some time now. I have seen many mentions of John “Peanut” Burroughs holding Booth’s horse at Ford’s Theatre. But, it is my understanding that after the assassination Booth went back to Mary Surratt’s house and, in so many words, told her that Lincoln was dead. He then got on another hourse and rode off. My theory is that it was at Mary Surratt’s house that Nathan Simms held Booth’s horse. I think it’s a story that we’ll never know for sure what exactly happened……
