Hello Dennis,I stumbled upon your site as I have been asking the same question...to make it easier for me,I will add my question I have just asked before finding you....
"Hello,I was looking at your site about Lincoln's signature.....I have a question...do you think his secretary,John Hay ever signed papers/documents for him in his absent at times,as most politicians or business men do at times in their absence? The reason I'm asking is,I bought a stack of papers from a family of politicians and with the papers,I had an appointment to Hay,I don't remember the time period,I have sold almost everything,but...I have a stack of hand written papers on 3 subjects...Morals of Education, the manufacturing of ink(2)and a condensed 37 chapters of Lincoln by Nathaniel Stephenson, the title on the paper "Lincoln"when I 1st noticed it(I'm just now looking at the paper after having it for 10 years)anyway,it looks like Lincoln's signature,exactly...I was reading where the author had access of Hay's private diary that was in condensed form to which the book was written in great length....I don't know exactly when these were written, but they did all come to me with 75 documents to do with politicians of one family, one was a senator who gave Hay his appointment(from the president)....anyway...I was looking into these as maybe written the author....but now it could be all written by John Hay...I include the beginning of the written page(4 pages front and back, tiny writing and cut out of a book with a knife...let me know if you have any information or thoughts"...,I sent a copy of the top of page to the other,if you would like to see a pic,let me know....B.Morris

This was taken on Oct. 2nd or 3rd after the Battle of Antietam. If you could send me your email.
