It seems, to me, that Mary was trying to coax the Senate into giving her more money. This may seem like an obvious question, but I was curious as to why Mary wanted more money. She already had so much, as well as being in deep debt. Was she just trying to console herself for the loss of her husband? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Isn’t it true that MTL was not homeless, as they owned the house in Springfield? I’ve been reading the Senate debates on her pension and one Senator mentions, with some degree of distaste, this campaign to raise money. I wonder if she got the “fur bill cut considerably.”
