ABRAHAM LINCOLN: A LIFE

Michael Burlingame's new book, Abraham Lincoln: A Life published by Johns Hopkins University Press is a new multi-volume biography that offers a fresh look at the life of Abraham Lincoln. This book was being published to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. Michael Burlingame, now the Professor of History at the University of Illinois at Springfield, gives an overview of the 12-year process to create this two-volume biography.

SIMULTANEOUS READING OF THE GETTYSBURG ADDRESS

The Four Score and Seven Project, a simultaneous reading of the Gettysburg Address on Abraham Lincoln's 200th Birthday, occurred with over 325,000 school children in Illinois. Thanks to a generous grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, JP Morgan Chase, and the Chicago Community Trust and in partnership with the Illinois State Board of Education.
