Microfilm Lab
The Microfilm Lab staff produces microfilm copies of books and manuscripts for the Library's collection. They also microfilm more than 300 current Illinois newspapers for the collection, as well as for publishers and libraries throughout the state. All of the newspaper microfilm produced by the Library is available for purchase at $45.00 per roll plus shipping and handling effective January 1, 2010.

The staff prepares the newspapers by disbinding bound issues, repairing any tears, sorting by title and date, flattening and pressing out creases and folds. The information about all newspapers microfilmed is added to a database.

After filming, duplicate positive copies of the microfilm are made for all standing-order customers, as well as a copy for the Library's collection. For security the master negative microfilm is stored off site. These negatives can be used to make replacements for damaged positives in the collection or copies to sell to individuals or libraries throughout the nation.

In addition, the Library microfilms back issues of Illinois newspapers. There is a charge of 15 cents per frame (two pages per frame) to prepare and microfilm old newspapers. Anyone with back issues they wish to have microfilmed or orders for any of the microfilm rolls filmed by the ALPL should contact:
