Famed military author to present "Lincoln as
Commander in Chief September 25 at Lincoln
Presidential Museum



SPRINGFIELD - Cole C. Kingseed, the West Point chief of military history and author of several well-known books on military history, including World War II and the Civil War, will present "Lincoln as Commander in Chief at 7 p.m. Friday, September 25 in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum's Union Theater.

The presentation is the latest in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation's Jim Edgar Lecture Series. Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for veterans, and $5 for students. Foundation members at the Circuit Rider level and above are entitled to two complimentary tickets to the annual Jim Edgar Lecture. Additional tickets and all other member levels will receive a ten percent ticket event discount. Cole C. Kingseed is author of the New York Times bestseller Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters, a personal history of the men from Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division whose battle exploits were featured in the television miniseries, "Band of Brothers. Kingseed has also written From Omaha Beach to Dawson's Ridge: The Combat Journal of Captain Joe Dawson (2005); Old Glory Stories: American Combat Leadership in World War II (2006); The American Civil War (2004); and Eisenhower and the Suez Crisis of 1956 (1995). Kingseed's 30-year military career included commands at the platoon, company and battalion level, culminating in his tenure as chief of military history at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

An acclaimed, dynamic speaker, Kingseed is currently a private leadership consultant whose clients have included General Electric, Freddie Mac, Heller Financial, Target Corporation, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and Merrill Lynch. He earned a Master's Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College and a PhD in History from Ohio State University.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation's Annual Jim Edgar Lecture Series brings nationally recognized speakers to Springfield. Created in 2005, the series honors Illinois' 38th Governor, who also served as the first leader of the Foundation's board. Long before he became governor, Jim Edgar was a passionate student of history. The Jim Edgar Lecture Series is a scholarly evening with broad appeal, keeping with the Foundation's mission to "promote historical literacy.
