Ringing in Lincoln's birthday
Simultaneous bell ringing at noon February 12 will
commemorate Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday

Springfield, IL — Churches, schools and other institutions and businesses with bells or chimes are encouraged to ring in Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday with a simultaneous bell ringing at noon Central Time on Thursday, February 12, 2009.

In addition, all businesses and institutions with marquee signs are encouraged to use those signs to convey birthday greetings to our 16th President.

"Bell ringing is a way that communities throughout history have recognized significant events," said Illinois Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Chair Marilyn Kushak. "I hope the entire nation will join us in this audible tribute to Lincoln and his lasting legacy, and that we see 200th birthday greetings everywhere as we travel through our communities." Numerous events are scheduled throughout Illinois to commemorate Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday. For a full schedule of events, visit www.lincoln200.net.
