Veterans pilgrimages to Lincoln Tomb February
12 and 13 honor Lincoln on his 201st birthday


Springfield, IL — Two annual pilgrimages to honor Abraham Lincoln’s birthday will be held Friday and Saturday, February 12 and 13 at Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site in Springfield’s Oak Ridge Cemetery. Both events are free and open to the public.

The 76th Annual National Pilgrimage to Lincoln Tomb by members of Springfield American Legion Post 32 will be held Friday, February 12. Dignitaries will assemble at 10:30 a.m., and wreaths from Legion posts across the state will be placed in the Burial Chamber. The American Legion National Commander will address those gathered for the event at 11 a.m., and other officials will also speak. The Sound Celebration Chorus, a part of Sweet Adelines International, will sing patriotic songs for the occasion.

The 63rd Annual Pilgrimage of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 13 at Lincoln Tomb. A service at the Tomb will feature a eulogy for Lincoln given by National VFW Commander in Chief Tom Tradewell. Military honors for the 16th President will follow, and uniformed soldiers will give Lincoln the traditional 21-gun salute.

Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site is administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. It is open daily for free public tours.
