Political legend Dan Rostenkowski to be next guest for
"Evenings to Remember"
SPRINGFIELD, IL: On December 7, 2005, former Congressman Dan Rostenkowski will reflect on his political career with ALPLM Executive Director Richard Norton Smith in "Evenings to Remember," at 7 p.m. in the Museumís Union Theatre. Rostenkowski, a Democrat, represented Illinois in Congress from 1959 to 1995. In Washington, he rose to the rank of Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee in 1981. As Chairman of Ways and Means, he played a crucial role in tax and trade policy for more than a decade.
Rostenkowski is also synonymous with the Chicago political organization of the late Mayor Richard J. Daley. During his long and colorful political career he came to know and have important dealings with nine American presidents. His appearance at the ALPLM is the second in a series of "Evenings to Remember" enabling significant figures in Illinois history to reflect on their lives and times in front of a public audience.
