Permanent Home Campaign - Preserving an Invaluable Collection of Lincoln Artifacts

Spurred by receipt of a generous contribution from world-renowned collector and author, Louise Taper, of iconic Lincoln artifacts, valued at more than $2 million, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation (ALPLF) took the initiative to acquire 1,500 additional pieces from a collection she meticulously amassed over nearly four decades. The Taper Collection was well-known as the most expansive and significant, privately-held, collection of Lincolniana in the world.

Mrs. Taper had focused on compiling an authentic collection that would not only tell the story of the tremendous obstacles and great successes of our 16th president, but would foremost tell the personal story of President Lincoln as son, husband, father and friend. Objects acquired spoke to Lincoln's rise from poverty, his relationship with his wife, and his personal despair over the two children who preceded him in death.

In 2008, the ALPLF launched a five-year $27 million campaign to ensure a Permanent Home at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum for the Taper Collection. The campaign's purpose is to make certain that this outstanding compilation would be forever accessible to the general public. Through curated exhibits and educational programs for children and adults these iconic Lincoln artifacts serve to deepen our understanding of Lincoln's life and times. Above all, the stories behind the Collection items contribute greatly to increasing our appreciation of Lincoln's remarkable role in preserving our core democratic values and constitutional principles.

Please take time to join the individuals, corporations, and foundations – from across the globe – that have joined us in support of this important campaign.
