SPRINGFIELD READINESS COMMITTEE
MISSION
The original goal was to prepare Springfield for the opening of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. When that goal was achieved April 2005, the Readiness Committee committed their collaborative efforts to be prepared and ready for the following opportunities:
Union Square Park and Visitors' Center
Remembrance of 1908 Race Riots in 2008
A Springfield Beautification Plan, coordinated with the 12.8 million dollar Capitol Avenue Project
Community Communication/Awareness of ALPLM and regional temporary exhibits
Bicentennial Celebration(s) February 2008-2010
Aggressive packaging and cross-promotion of all Greater Springfield Tourist Sites (ALPLM, Union Square Park, Lincoln Home Site, Lincoln Tomb, Lincoln Depot, Lincoln Law Offices, Looking for Lincoln Sites, Dana Thomas Home, Illinois State Museum, World War II Memorial, etc.) to encourage extended time in Springfield by visitors.
Lincoln National Heritage Area (proposed)
Unification of Web sites linking major groups
Potential Lincoln Festival
