THE 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S BIRTH!
On February 12, 2009, America will celebrate the 200th birthday of one of its most beloved and revered presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln rose to the presidency through a life of honesty, integrity, intelligence and commitment to the United States. During some of the darkest hours in American history, Lincoln preserved the Union, led the effort to end slavery and articulated the best aspirations of American democracy. In honor of Lincoln’s enduring legacy, Congress has established a Bicentennial Commission to plan national observances in celebration of the sixteenth president’s birth. From now through 2010, the United States, and Illinois in particular, will see a renewed interest in Lincoln. A variety of events have been planned to celebrate Lincoln’s legacy. In that spirit, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and our sponsors launched the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Tour to share Abraham Lincoln's remarkable life and lessons and to explore his accomplishments in a way that will enlighten and inspire.
We hope you enjoy this travelling exhibit and use the resources collected here to celebrate the bicentennial of a great American too!
