Admission and Ticket Information

The Library has no admission charge. The Museum's admission fee is:

Adult (16 - 61 years of age) $10.00
Senior (62 years of age and up) $7.00
Children (5 - 15 years of age) $4.00
Military (id required) $7.00
Students (school/college id required) $7.00
Child (under 5 are free) No Charge
 
Ticket price includes admission to the exhibit areas and both theater presentations.

Getting Here

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum is centrally located in downtown Springfield, Illinois and is easily accessible via car, rail (Amtrak), or air (Springfield's Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport). Once in Springfield getting around is quick and easy using local taxi service or public transit. There is also a sight-seeing trolley.

Directions

Due to the one-way street system in downtown Springfield the following directions are provided:

From Springfield's Clear Lake Avenue Exit: Proceed West on Clear Lake. Clear Lake will turn into Jefferson Street (one way West). The Museum Bus Drop Off is located on the North side of Jefferson between Sixth and Seventh Street.

From Chicago, take I-55 South to the West Clear Lake Avenue Exit.

From Champaign, take I-72 West. Proceed to IL-97/West Clear Lake Avenue.

From St. Louis, take I-55 North to West Clear Lake Avenue Exit.

From Jacksonville, take I-36 East to I-55 North. Proceed to West Clear Lake Avenue Exit.

From Indianapolis, take I-74 West to I-72 West. Proceed to IL-97/West Clear Lake Avenue.

From Peoria, take I-74 East to I-155 South to I-55 South. Proceed to West Clear Lake Avenue Exit.

From Des Moines, take I-80 East to I-74 East. Proceed to I-155 South to I-55 South. Proceed to West Clear Lake Avenue Exit.

From Kankakee, take I-57 South to I-72 West. Proceed to IL-97/West Clear Lake Avenue.


Adjacent Ramp Parking

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum parking ramp is off 6th Street between Madison and Mason streets. The rate is $.75 cents per 1/2 hour or $1.50 per hour. The RV and bus parking lot is a flat rate of $5.00.

Adult Tour Groups

For adult groups wishing to tour the ALPM, the Springfield Convention and Visitors' Bureau is accepting requests at this time. Please go on-line and access the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau website at http://www.visit-springfieldillinois.com. Click on the Red Tour Bus icon, and then click on make reservations online.

Bookings must be confirmed with the Springfield Convention and Visitors' Bureau 30 days in advance with payment due to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum 15 days prior to the tour date. All sales are final. No refunds; no exchanges.

Arrival Information for Tour Groups

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time. You have been scheduled for an EXACT tour time. Late arrivals may forfeit their tour. Early arrivals may not be granted entry until their scheduled tour time.

Your bus will be met by an ALPM docent who will provide you with further instructions. Do not unload your bus before speaking with an ALPM docent.

Busses will drop off guests at the south end of the ALPM on Jefferson Street (one-way West). See map.

Busses will pick up guests on the west side of the ALPM on 6th Street (one way North). See map.

Bus parking is free. A code is required to exit the lot. An ALPM staff person or docent will provide this code upon your arrival.

Museum Rules and Suggestions

No backpacks or large bags will be allowed. Umbrellas and bags exceeding a size limit of 11x16x8 must be left on the bus or checked into a locker. Headsets, personal stereos and other electronic equipment must be left on the bus or checked into a locker. Cell phones should be silenced.

Photography is allowed only in the Plaza area and Mrs. Lincoln Attic. No photography is allowed in the theaters, galleries or exhibits.

No food, beverages, candy or gum are allowed in the Museum. The Museum is a smoke-free facility.

The entire museum is monitored by video surveillance. Please do not touch the exhibits.

If your group has booked other tours through SCVB, we ask that you maintain your SCVB schedule.

Bus drivers accompanying a scheduled group will receive complimentary admission.

Strobes are used in the Union Theater presentation.

Accessibility

Guests with wheelchairs may be dropped off at the Museum's Main Entrance at Sixth and Jefferson. A limited supply of Museum wheelchairs is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Motorized wheelchairs are permitted. Strollers must fit within Museum guidelines. Umbrella strollers are recommended.

Union Station Visitor Center
The newly opened Union Station Visitor Center, located in Springfield, has begun delivering information to visitors that reflect not only Springfield area historic sites and events but Illinois tourism as a whole. Union Station Visitor Center is strategically located across from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Another service available at the center includes on-site booking of hotel accommodations and special event packages that are scheduled across the state of Illinois (217) 557-4588.

Union Square Park
Union Square Park, directly across the street from the museum, has been the location of many free events and performances, including the 33rd Illinois Vol. Regiment Band and the 10th Illinois Vol. Cavalry Regiment Band (both Civil War re-enactment groups); Mary Lincoln's Strawberry Party (a summertime family event); July 4th celebration, New Century Orchestra, Springfield International Folk Dancers, and many more musical performances throughout the year. The musical The Civil War will be performed in the park July 24-27, 2008.
