On June 1st, 1865 In Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Abraham Lincoln expressed his hope for the continued improvement of our great nation!
We have sadly proven his statement that “The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here” to be incorrect. We all remember the words, but we as a people have long forgotten the spirit and intent of what was done by the courageous people of that time.
We live in a nation still plagued by inequality based on race, religion, gender, and sexuality and we are poised to lead our country into yet another civil war. A class war is coming and the political party that President Lincoln was so proud of is swiftly becoming the catalyst for our modern conflict.
It is time for us to truly honor the brave men that struggled there. Time not just to continue but to complete the work that our Founding Fathers began and President Lincoln called upon our nation to continue. To complete the “great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
We need start electing statesmen looking to advance their country instead of politicians looking to advance their careers.
Informed voters will bring change!
